What Successful Medium Writers Do Differently
Hint: You already knew this
I’m not going to waste anyone’s time here…
Successful writers publish often.
Or at least they do when they are just getting started.
I reviewed the profiles of several top writers on Medium and identified one clear similarity between them all:
They all published multiple times a week.
Some even published every day.
Take Jeff Goins for example.

Jeff has 98K followers on Medium and has been featured in nearly every publication there is. He’s a writer, entrepreneur and has even written a handful of books. While he doesn’t post as frequently anymore, Jeff grew his audience by posting pretty much every other day.

This is obviously just a small preview of Jeff’s posting history, but nonetheless, it really speaks to his consistency. I even went back to his posts in 2014 and saw pretty much the same consistency.
And how about Anthony Moore

With more than 43K followers, Anthony writes on everything from achieving your goals to entrepreneurship. He’s now a top contributor in topics such as entrepreneurship, productivity and business & is frequently featured in popular publications like The Ascent and The Startup.

Anthony’s been writing since 2017 and has consistently been posting every couple of days. There were times where he posted more and times he posted less. But, from 2017 to 2020 he consistently was posting multiple times a week.
And one more — Shannon Ashley

While Shannon boasts a slightly smaller following than the others (26K), she's only been on Medium since May of 2018. In that short time she’s built her audience using one key differentiator — she posts every single day.

Pretty damn impressive if you ask me. I even scrolled back to when she first started writing and it’s pretty much the same. While during her early days she may have posted every other day, she’s been on the ‘daily posts train’ for a while. Which I believe is the part of the reason for her explosive growth over the past 2 years.
Get the point?
Frequent, consistent posts.
Posting multiple times a week.
I think a lot of us already knew this and were avoiding it.
I know I was.
The truth is…It takes work to post every day. Even every other day. Hell, even to put out a post every week is tough.
But that work is what seems to lead to growth on Medium. It could be that frequent posting leads to better writing, which leads to better posts, eventually leading to a larger audience.
Regardless, I think posting frequently is the cornerstone to it all.
I finally stopped avoiding the fact that I need to post more and committed to a 30-day experiment of posting a new article every day. This post is #2.
